What is the Eligibility for Pilot Training?

In India , it is 10 + 2 , but at other places it is twelveth pass.

Is it better to complete a degree and then study for commercial pilot license or to straight away go to cpl after finishing +2 ?

Straight away go to CPL after the Completion of +2.

What is the age Limit for the CPL ?

The age limit is 17-52 yrs.

Minimum Age :17yrs

Maximum Age :52 yrs/

What is the entry-level qualification for a pilot to join an airline and what does he join as?

The min. requirement that any airline generally wants is a pilot to have is a basic Commercial Pilots License, with an Instrument Rating and preferably a Multi Engine rating. When the pilot joins an airline, he joins as a trainee pilot and then he undergoes the various training program conducted by the airline as per their requirements. Once successfully completing theses training programs one is released to fly as a first Officer (often called as Co- Pilot).

Can I join this course if I have studies Commerce or Arts?

Yes u can definitely join this course and pursue a career as an airline pilot provided you have cleared the 10+2 level exam from a recognized board. But in the case of Commerce or an Arts Student, he/she will have to appear for an isolated paper in math’s and physics at the 10+2 level from a recognised education board.

Is the FAA, CAA, JAA or Indian CPL valid anywhere else in the world?

Yes, Certainly the FAA, CAA or Indian CPL is valid all over the world and it is fully convertible to a license of any other country as per the rules of that country.

How does an Airline Choose its Pilots ?

Usually an airline will place an ad in the leading newspaper of the country and then call for applications, Once received they will then short list the candidates for a written exam, if successful in the written exam they would want them to undergo a IPT test (Instrument Practical trainer test) which is done on a basic procedure trainer like the ATC 710. The last block is that of a personal interview which is conducted to assess the individual’s personality and temperament. (May differ from employer to employer)

How does one choose which aircraft to fly as a basic aircraft to be included in the license as a rating?

One can choose any aircraft below a weight of 1,500 Kgs; in this category a lot of options are available like the Cessna 152. The basic criteria in choosing the aircraft is easy availability, low maintenance, safe, easy to fly and understand etc.

Can I join the air force with a CPL or how do I join the air force ?

One cannot join the air force with a CPL since the air force has different criteria for selection and their training methods are very different as they fly a different category of aircraft and fly it for a different purpose from the one employed in training you as a commercial pilot. In order to join the air force one can either go through the NDA or through the short service commission. But for a flying job in the air force one has to go through the NDA.

Who is the potential employer for a pilot with a basic CPL in our country ?

One can be employed with Air- India, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Sahara, The Indian Coast Guard, various flying schools employee you as an instructor and also flying schools outside India can employ you.

What is the Minimum height that one must have in order to become a pilot ?

There is no particular height one has to have, the individuals legs should reach the rudder pedals when he has his hands on the control and he should be able to see outside over the instrument panel.

What is the eyesight one must have? Are glasses permissible ?

Yes, One can have glasses and still be flying as a commercial pilot; the max glass power allowed in aviation is ± 3, which is again at the discretion of the medical examiner. Your glasses power can increase with age.

What are the reasons for one not to clear in the medical examination ?

A normal human being will not fail the medical examination unless something is severely wrong with his body like a hole in the heart, migraine, Colour blindness, asthma, epilepsy, polio etc

What is the hiring outlook for the airlines?
The outlook for airline hiring is expected to be excellent for the next 5 to 8 years, as there are an estimated 90,000 to 120,000 pilots needed. Most of this growth is attributed to the continued expansion within the regional, though there are obviously new pilots needed in corporate aviation as well as freight/cargo, while many experienced regional pilots advance to the major carriers.

What other positions are available to commercial pilots outside of the airlines?
The possibilities are endless! Pilots are always needed in various areas of aviation, including, but not limited to: freight/cargo, corporate aviation, air charter/taxi, medical, aerial photography, surveying, aerial surveillance by police, FBI, and other government agencies, banner towing, skydiving, glider towing and research and development. There is an endless list of opportunities for employment outside of the airlines.

What amount of flight experience do I need to be employed by an airline?
The short answer is that it all depends. Some airlines will hire pilots with as low as 250 hours, but, more often than not, employers want to see closer to 700 hours, and at least 100 hours of multi-engine time. Some carriers will consider applicants with as low as 25 hours of multi-engine time. Contrary to what some may tell you, any more than 150 hours of multi-engine time is generally treated the same, and as such has no real impact on qualification over another applicant with similar total time but less multi time. An instrument rating and commercial certificates are a given.

Do you have any interview or employment agreements with the airlines?
No, nor do we plan to have any in the future. We are in the business of training pilots. Our graduates leave our programs as highly qualified pilots, and we feel very satisfied that our graduates get their first jobs based on merit, not on our ability to network within the aviation community.

Do I need an Associates or Bachelor degree?
While a college degree is not a requirement for most pilot jobs, it is preferred. Regional do not require any formal education, though some do give preference to those with higher education. All major carriers do require a 4-year degree, and many corporate flight departments prefer their pilots to becollege educated as well.

Before you take decision to become an International Airlines Pilot you
must read following dos and don't for Pilots.

We have included this section to help and explain the opportunities available to those Trainees who continue towork towards the professional Pilot License level, and there after how to get about with their "way forward" plans. I've also thought it prudent to include some of the many pitfalls or setbacks that await the financially unwary in what is otherwise a very honorable profession. Every country has its own civil Aviation Department who manages Aviation activities. You must make sure here we are talking about only civil Aviation industry
Not defence flying. If you are planning to become a fighter Pilot, Sorry I also can't help you much.

Before you begin
Before you embark, it is most important that you get a assessment from your country's "Civil Aviation Dept;" about the recognition of the license you are hoping to get, Is the License fully recognized by your civil aviation when you return back home., ..? Also read CAR [ Civil Aviation requirment ] throughly.

About the Airline training industry

Aviation worldwide is a recurring market and the industry is affected predominantly by economics, politics and some part of the globe with acute terrorism..ect. 9/11 had a negative impact on the airline industry, while in other regions tourism sustained and some picked up and all the local airlines and charter companies fared rather well...

Outside an Airline

Not all pilots choose an airline career. There are many other specialties just as rewarding. Other areas available are crop spraying, although I don't recommend it if you intend going the airline route. Airlines prefer hiring pilots with multi-crew, multi-engine experience from structured environments. Nevertheless – it is well paid but obviously seasonal. Some crop sprayers alternate their work between northern and southern hemispheres to work all year long. Possession of a "instructor rating" will always assist you in gaining hours without any
cost on flying, this also help you to maintain your license currency at all times... Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has the ability to become aprofessional pilot. In fact, some people shouldn't fly at all! Not because they can't fly well - but because they can't think well! Cocky, over-confident, egocentric pilots are not desirable and tend to be short lived in this job. The saying "there are old pilots and bold pilots – but no old bold pilots" is true. With the responsibilities and consequences involved, you...

One small tip – guard your reputation well! Airlines do their homework meticulously. Internationally this is a close knit community and if you have a reputation as a heavy drinking Casanova or a flamboyant show-off, you can rest assured the selection board will know about it before you arrive for the interview. Better have some answers ready!

Remuneration

Obviously this is a difficult subject to generalise on as salaries vary extensively around the world. Crop spraying is renowned as being a well paid job but this will be cyclically dependant on the season and whether you are prepared to work in outlying areas and switch hemispheres as...
